Climate Action Day Brings Everyone on Board

  • Kick-off for the internal sustainability journey. The Climate Action Day is the occasion to develop the sustainability strategy together. The status quo is discussed, measures are implemented, and ideas are gathered.
  • Boosting employee engagement. The sense of belonging and commitment to the company's own sustainability strategy are increased by having employees themselves implement climate-friendly activities.

An organizing team is formed to plan the action day. It consists of three people from Marketing & Communications, HR, and CSR. These so-called Climate Rangers begin preparations five weeks before the event. Internal communication via intranet and email kicks off almost simultaneously.

To ensure that companies of every size and industry get the most out of the action day, you can design it individually. You assemble the agenda from different modules using a modular approach. The options include a livestream, activities, quizzes, or challenges. Whether management, CSR officers, or people without prior knowledge: the Climate Action Day has something for everyone.

A day full of inspiration and action

The organizing team of our example company also selects its agenda from the modules on the Glacier platform. From 9:30 to 11 a.m., the nearly 130 participants follow the official livestream as a public viewing at the company's headquarters. This includes an interactive session with meteorologist and climate expert Marcus Wadsak. To make the program as relevant as possible, the organizing team holds a vote in advance on an additional session. Colleagues choose from a list of on-demand content that Glacier provides in addition to the livestream. The session that receives the most votes is the one with Ali Tabrizi, director of the Netflix documentary 'Seaspiracy', about the impact of the fishing industry on climate change.

-> The Climate Action Day combines inspiration and action. Colleagues are inspired during the livestream with keynotes and panel discussions from leading experts on current trends. They get into action by implementing climate-friendly measures within the company themselves. Quizzes, challenges, and activities such as a Veggie Day or swap corners show how easy climate protection can be.

The starting signal for your own climate protection journey

For the employees of our example company, the action day already started early in the morning, on the way to work. Instead of driving, they come to the office on foot, by bike, or by public transport that day. And those who really can't do without their car form carpools. Which commute was the most climate-friendly is something the workforce learns during the climate quiz: Which mode of transport causes the lowest emissions over 10 kilometers? In a playful way, colleagues test their climate knowledge. Testing also takes place at the veggie tasting in the canteen. Can the bolognese made from soy granules or pea protein keep up with the meat version? Its carbon footprint is, in any case, far better.

But the Climate Action Day also marks the kick-off for the company's sustainability journey. Sustainability plans and successes are communicated and discussed on an ideas and success wall. The organizing team also finds support for this on the Glacier platform. Motivated colleagues can then sign up to form a so-called Green Team. In the future, it will serve as an internal advocacy group for sustainability within the company – and ensures that climate protection remains a lived reality even after the Climate Action Day.

-> And that's exactly what the Climate Action Day is all about: it makes climate protection the top topic on this one day and gives companies the opportunity to leverage the momentum created beyond the action day. With concrete goals and measures and the commitment gained from the workforce, your own climate protection journey gains traction.
