Scope 3

Indirect emissions across the value chain — often the largest share of a company's carbon footprint.

Scope 3 covers all other indirect emissions generated by a company's activities but occurring in sources it does not own or control. This includes purchased goods and services, business travel, commuting, use of sold products and end-of-life treatment.

The GHG Protocol splits Scope 3 into 15 categories. For most companies Scope 3 is both the largest share of total emissions and the hardest to measure.
